I love to bake. And I love pie. However, I do not love to bake pies. The ability to make a decent crust eludes me. After several failed attempts years ago, I have not ventured back into the pie making world.
Until now. Karl & Liz moved to a new house with an apple tree literally brimming with gorgeous, delicious apples. Liz and I decided that we would try our luck with apple pies.
After two unlucky batches of crust, we made the decision to take some help from Western Family, and PRESTO- a perfect crust! (In our defense, we did still have to unroll & shape it :)
The rest of the pie came together nicely. The filling was nice and cinnamon-y, the crust looked lovely, and the streusel top was perfect. After 50 minutes in the oven, this was the final product:
Not to shabby for a first attempt! It tasted good too! We couldn't wait for it to cool before digging in, so the filling wasn't quite set, but it was yummy! My favorite part is the topping, it is so good!

I'm so glad they turned out! The pie was delicious. We took the pie over to our neighbors last night and the man told me that he almost told me earlier to bring him one over when they were done so he thought it was funny I really did. He just told me today how WONDERFUL they thought the pie was.
Wow - I'm impressed! Way to go pie makers!
It was a really yummy pie. I'm glad that Steve and I got to finish it off! Gotta love Western Family. ;)
Katie, I have a great, easy crust recipe. I'll give it to you for when you feel like trying again.
