Tally-ho & Scallywag

Yesterday we went to England. Did I mention we were going to England? Well, technically it was England, though it is not anywhere near what most people think of as England. We went to the tiny rock of Gibraltar. Gibraltar is the southernmost point of Europe, connected to Spain but owned by England. And they call it a rock, because that is exactly what it looks like – a rock dropped onto the side of Spain!

It’s funny, for as close as it is to Spain it is sure different! English is the main language spoke, though there is quite a bit of Spanish as well. The architecture and cuisine are definitely English! We took advantage of the situation and enjoyed a true English lunch!

We didn’t stay long, but it was enough to make me want to visit England! Maybe one day!

Dear Holly,

Today while I was in England I saw a sign advertizing
Warm, Fresh Scones with Jam & Butter. While I was not really hungry (having just ate lunch) I thought of you and couldn’t pass up the chance to try a true English scone! So I bought one, and you were right – it was divine! Warm and flakey, crunchy on the top. YUM!! Thanks for the tip, I owe you!

I think I have some ideas on how to get our scones to be more authentic! I will call you when I get home!

Sincerely,

Katie

Katie, I'm so glad! We will start with my British recipe (which I've never tried) and go from there. We'll just have to keep making them until we get them right! Did you eat clotted cream on the top? That's my favorite! So glad you are having a great time.

Oh I love England! That was probably one of my favorites on my European tour - you definitely have to go back! What a blast!
