My problem with books

(photo from google.com)

I like to read. A lot. So much that when I don’t have time to read at least a little every day I really miss it. These past few weeks have not been conducive to reading much. Life became a whirlwind with a giant list of to-do’s, and reading got pushed aside.

I decided that I needed to find a way to fit some reading time in each day. I figured that if I went to bed 20 minutes early every night I could spend those 20 minutes reading. Not only would it give me the daily literary fix I crave, but also experts suggest that reading before going to bed can be soothing and lead to a more restful night’s sleep. Seems like a perfect plan, right? Wrong.

Instead of having a more restful night’s sleep, I noticed a sharp drop in the amount of sleep I got the nights that I read before going to sleep. My problem is that I like to read too much. 20 minutes is just enough to get sucked into a book, to the point where I can’t put it down. Instead of reading 20 minutes a night I found myself reading 1 ½ - 2 hours. When I finally forced myself to turn off the lights and go to sleep my mind was still so absorbed in the storyline that it took me way longer to fall asleep than usual (it also led to some really bizarre dreams!)

So while reading before going to bed may work for some people, I think I may have to discontinue my plan and find time elsewhere to read!

Oh, I miss you. We are a lot alike.. only I don't read often. But when I do it's hard to stop! We need to have a little chat/get together soon... maybe you could let me borrow some books! :)

I know what you mean by getting sucked into a book right before bed. I hate to put the book down too. Sounds like school is going great for you. Thanks once again for the books.

I pretty much have to finish a book when I start it. I am not good at reading for 20 minutes, either!

hahaha you make me laugh. Probably not a good idea for you to read at bedtime :)

I'm usually the same as you on that count... although the book I'm currently reading puts me to sleep every time I try to start reading it! Even though it's really good and full of adventure, 3-4 pages in I'm dozing off. Maybe that's the book you should try reading at night! :)

LOL! I've done that before so I understand. :) I hope you're able to find a good time - 'cause it's important to do some fun things for yourself during the crazy time of being a brand new teacher. Love you tons and hope the first few weeks are going well!!!

You are so right. I've actually stayed up ALL NIGHT more than once to finish a book that I couldn't put down. By the way, what is the best dark chocolate to snack on?
