Spring Break in Seattle - Part One

What is one to do when they need to run away for spring break? Well if they are lucky they have a great friend like I do who lives in a fun city and invites you to visit! Suzette and I were roommates our freshman year of college. We became great friends, and even though we don't see each other very often we have stayed friends throughout the years. The great thing is that it doesn't matter how long it has been since we've seen each other, as soon as we are together it is like we are back in college!

I left Utah on Monday morning and flew to Seattle. Suzette and her to darling kiddo's picked me up at the airport. We took advantage of the uncharacteristically clear and beautiful day to do some sightseeing. We started out at the Seattle Temple, so beautiful!

We also stopped by Snoqualmie Falls. Which was also spectacular!

Tuesday was very much a Seattle day - overcast and drizzly for the most part. But that didn't stop us from seeing the city! We went to the Space Needle:

And then we took a "Duck Tour" of the city. Everyone told me that you have to take a Duck Tour if you go to Seattle. It is a cool vehicle that goes from the road into the water and shows you all around Seattle.

We saw the "Hammering Man", a 48 foot tall statue that hammers from 7:00 in the morning until 10:00 each night 364 days a year. It was built to honor the working man, so it rests on Labor Day. I thought that was a cool fact!

There were LOTS of really cool things that they showed us, but I didn't get pictures of most of them. I guess this is a really famous car wash. The sign made me smile!

After we had seen many of the landmarks on land we took off into the lake. We went right past the "Sleepless in Seattle" houseboat. It is the green one in the middle of the picture. We couldn't get very close since people live there, but that is it!

It was SUPER cold and a little wet, but such a fun way to see the city! I would definitely recommend a Duck Tour to someone visiting Seattle for the first time!

We went to Pike's Place famous farmers market, which was the biggest farmers market I have ever seen!

And if you go down a little alley below Pike's Market you come to the infamous gum wall:

I have never seen anything like this and was totally intrigued! walls and walls COVERED top to bottom with gum. Yes, kind of gross, but SOOOOO cool! Of course I had to add to it!

Both Suzette and I forgot to look where we had parked when we went in to Pike's Market. Smart. We roamed around 4 floors of the parking garage before finding Suzette's car on the 5th floor. Word to the wise - check the floor you park on :)

Then we took a ferry to Bainbridge. Not because we needed to go to Bainbridge, but because we wanted to ride the ferry. And it was worth it! It was a beautiful ride!

It was also VERY windy!

It was worth it for the perfect view of the city!

I may have fallen a little bit in love with Seattle!

I love it how you blogged about the parking spot. I couldn't stop laughing as I was reading it. I guess it made me realized how blonde we both really are.
