Sometimes we laugh even when things aren't really funny. I think this is because we may not know how to act or react in a given situation.
Yesterday afternoon we laughed when my 23-year-old brother, Eric, passed out while working in the garage with my dad. We didn't laugh while he was passed out, of course-- we just laughed about it afterwards, when the scare had passed and he was left with an enormous goose egg on the back of his head. Eric passed out again a couple of hours later and ended up with a matching goose egg on his forehead, which I still laughed about a little bit after he seemed to be doing a bit better.
However it was no laughing matter when just a couple of hours after that Eric passed out in the ER while hooked up to all kinds of monitors, and we learned that the reason he is passing out is because his heart is stopping. As we learned with my grandma's heart issues in December, our local hospital doesn't have much of a cardiac unit, so they put Eric in an ambulance and sent him to the nearest hospital with a strong cardiac unit for treatment and observation.
Earlier today it was decided to put a pace maker in to make sure that Eric's heart will stop stopping.
Eric had only just been admitted to the ER and hooked up to the monitors when he passed out that third time. The machine's reading showed that his heart only beat three times in a 30 second period. When my dad and Steve were giving Eric a blessing before he left for the hospital, my dad blessed him more than once that the doctors would be able to quickly find the problem so that they could set about fixing it. That blessing quite obviously came to pass, and it's given me peace is realizing that the Lord is truly watching over Eric at this time.
Any prayers on Eric's behalf would be greatly appreciated.
Hang in there, Bud, and get well soon! We're all praying for you!

I am glad to hear that he is doing ok. He called to talk to us tonight... just because he was bored. Looks like he's still the same ol' Eric. I hope his recovery is fast.
Our prayers are with you, too. We hope for a speedy recovery.
Count on it! Scary!
I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers too! Let me know if you need anything.
I'm so glad Eric's home and doing ok!
Btw - there are some pictures of the house on the blog... Just look down a few posts. :)
Wow! Hope he is doing better now.
