On Our Way

The school I am volunteering at had a school break the last week of June, which was good news for us because we wanted to do a little backpacking around Central America!  The plan was to leave on June 21st, and come back around July 1st.  We had been working on the plan for weeks, and were super excited to get going!

After school on Thursday (The 21st)  Krista, Ryand and I  headed to Antigua.  Antigua is the biggest city we have nearby, so anytime we travel anywhere we have to go there.  We spent the night at a hostel and enjoyed the sightes of the city at night, ate crepes, and met some really interesting people!

Friday (the 22nd) started bright and early!  Okay, it wasn´t so bright!  A shuttle picked us up at 4:00 AM to take us to the airport.  It was a VERY early morning and we were all super tired!  Which you can tell by looking at our pictures!

We opted to take the 45 minute flight to Flores instead of the 18 hour bus ride, even though it cost significantly more.  It made it so we had a whole extra day to use seeing things instead of sitting on a bus, so we decided it was worth it!

The plane was the smallest plane I have ever flown it, but it was very nice!  They even fed us breakfast!  Funny that I was given more food on a 45 minute flight in Guatemala than on any of my flights to Guatemala!

At the airport we met up with Shonnee and Jessica, who left Patzicía the day after we arrived.  We were very excited to see them again!  As soon as we got off the plane we hired a van to take us to Tikal.

The drive to Tikal was beautiful!  We had entered the world of forests all around, and it was amazing!  We saw this ´´Jaguar Crossing´´ sign and had to get a picture!  How cool is that!

By 9:30 in the morning we had arrived in Tikal, ready to see the ancient ruins of the Mayan people.  I was SOOOO Excited!  I took so many pictures that picking ones to post was REALLY hard.  And I picked too many to put them all on this post (the internet here doesn´t love posting pictures to blogger) so you will have to wait to see Tikal!  Stay tuned!

I love the crocodile picture and how you have your back to the water. What if one would have come out of the water and got you while you were taking this picture. I am excited to see more pictures so keep posting!
