We live in a small town about an hour and a half outside of Guatemala city called Patzicía (pronounced pat-zuh-see-uh). It is a small town, though everything is built very close together on very narrow streets, so it feels pretty crowded sometimes!
As you´ll notice in the first picture, there is garbage all over the ground. ¨The world is my trashcan¨ is the motto of most third world countries, and it is one I will never get use to! But really, it is far worse there (and on most corners of busy streets) than in most places. I liked the picture enough that I decided to put it up, even with all the trash!
As I said, the streets are narrow! When cars are coming from two directions, one has to stop to let the other go by. We walk single file most of the time so that we don´t end up getting hit by a car, bus, motorcycle, or a tuk-tuk. We figure our families would appreciate that!
Market day in Patzicía is on Wednesday and Saturday. The streets are crammed with vendors, as well as buyers! It is quite a sight to see!
One of my favorite sights in town is the giant pila where people wash their clothes. Most town´s have one, though Patzy´s is larger and cleaner than most I have seen. It is near the school, so we walk past it often. Some days are SUPER busy. The day I took this picture it was not near as crowded.
The view looking to the outskirts of Patzy is quite phenomenal. It doesn´t matter how long I have been here, I can not get over how green everything is!
I love to drive through the country and see the fields everywhere. I especially love the fields that look like patchwork quilts, and the terraced farming they do on the sides of mountains. I think it is so beautiful!
Generally it is quite wet here, so usually these beautiful landscapes are covered with a mist (which is also beautiful, but very difficult to catch a picture of!)

Yes, your families truly do appreciate your NOT getting hit by motorized vehicles... Or tuk-tuks? :) It's beautiful there, minus the garbage.
