Today I was reading a book with my reading group that referenced Elvis Presley. The following conversation occurred:
Student 1: What is an Elvis?
Me: Elvis would be a "Who" since he was a person (Yes, I really said that. It sounded weird coming out, too)
Students: Ohhhhhh . . .
Me: He was a very popular singer a long time ago.
Student 2: Like in 1999?
Me: Um, no. Quite a bit longer than that!
I laughed so hard! Since when was 1999 a long time ago?

hahaha, that's really funny. Elvis was even way before our time and we certainly were not born in 1999 :) That is pretty silly. And i actually like how you said your statement.
That's hilarious! I just told someone the other day that I used to listen to old Elvis records as I did chores as a kid... They didn't even know what a record was!!
Well, I guess 1999 would be a really long time ago to your first graders, who were still years from being born at that point. And I guess it does feel like a long time ago to me when I really think about it, but not like ELVIS long ago...
And now I have stuck in my head, "Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999..." :)
Hahaha! Yeah, my little sister makes comments sometimes about not knowing what I'm talking about because it was something that happened in the 90's and I feel really old. 1999 still doesn't seem that long ago to me.
